About Emma

"I am a wild swimmer and life-long hobbyist writer specialising in narrative non-fiction. Having spent a couple of decades being distracted by a career as an air traffic controller and experiencing two life-wrenching events, I rediscovered my pen and my passion for storytelling."

Emma Simpson, author

"At the same time I discovered how transformational cold-water swimming was for my health, wellbeing, and sense of connection with the world. Trained in coaching psychology, I have combined my years as an observer of human behaviour in high stress environments with my love for listening to people’s tales around the shores of a lake; mug of steaming hot tea in hand. I hold these stories with great care and trust as I reflect on the great oral storytelling traditions of our past.

My current book, Breaking Waves, is an exploration into the primal powers of femininity and water; with stories gathered from around the world that demonstrate the power of connection and humanity in an increasingly crazy society. Future books include The Purple Vine Tea House which is a modern love story delicately wrapped in the history and culture of tea (I am a qualified tea sommelier!); and Slipping Through my Fingers - a warm, heartfelt and humorous exploration of the separation of mother and child in real time, as I prepare for my daughters flying the nest.

My favourite colour is purple, I love elephants, like to rescue bumblebees and I think tea is the solution to most world problems. I am a lioness for those I care about, and a scared rabbit at the same time, and my passions centre around the endurance and optimism of the human spirit. I am fascinated by the dark beauty of all corners of the world and our capacity to love through adversity. I can generally be found swimming in rivers in a bikini in the snow, drinking tea with friends, or embarrassing my teenage children with my compulsion to talk with anyone I meet."
