Breaking Waves is underpinned by Emma’s own story which hinges on the tragic death of her brother as a young man, and the diminishing of her voice as the colour seeped out of her world. Intertwining the tales of women she has met through the open water with her own, Emma takes the reader on a journey of hope and renewal, reflecting on how there is no perfect way to remember, to live, to grieve. Through time spent in and around water Emma found a place to reconnect to herself, to the natural world, and to the most remarkable community; rediscovering adventure, joy and a profound sense of contentment along the way.
